Athlete Support

Our Australian athletes are an inspiration to the nation and sport is a strong part of the Australian culture and way of life. However, our athletes need support if they are to realise their dreams of representing Australia at the highest level. The Quarter Club and the South Australian Olympic Council are committed to supporting Aussie athletes from the start of their careers to when they retire from elite sport and beyond.

Athlete Support
Funds raised by the Quarter Club go directly towards helping Australian athletes compete at Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games. This ‘Joint Games Appeal’ was proposed by Robert Gerard AO following the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.

Robert Gerard AO Athlete Development Fund
As well as supporting athletes at a senior elite level, it was felt that more should be done to support young South Australian athletes striving to represent their country at an international level. The Robert Gerard AO Athlete Development Fund was established in late 2007 for this very purpose and with the guidance of the South Australian Sports Institute will endeavour to provide funding at crucial times and at short notice to allow young, developing athletes to represent their country.
